What do you consider when joining a site?
I consider the activity. Not necessarily the number of members, but the activity a site has. I like making sure at least ten people sign on on a daily/regular basis. I don't mind joining a site when it's big, as long as I do not feel left out or excluded. The layout has to be nice and at least presentable. I wouldn't want to join a site which blinds my eyesight or anything, hah.
What about you?

hmm, when i join a site i think about a few things. usually i like there to be about fifteen - twenty five members on a day. if there's more then that, people tend to get ignored, if theres less then that things can get dead very quickly, though i do make exceptions for some sites. i also like it when these cbox's are used and when you post a code it comes up in a scroll box instead of the regular thing, if you know what im talking about. i dont know, friendly-ness or recommendation by word of mouth get me big though, so if im talking on a cbox as a guest and everyone’s super nice i usually join. i dont know, i have all of these little tiny things that help me decide if i wanna join or not.

I completely agree with you Krista. Usually, the presentation is the first thing on my mind when it comes to a site. If it doesn’t have a decent skin or a nice banner and images, then there is a very small chance I’ll join it—more often than not, I just won’t. The other thing I look for is how many members have signed on that day and how many posts that have been made on the site, so yes activity. But lastly, (and this is a big deciding factor) is whether or not the members have nice posting sizes. It tends to irk me very much so when some people post really teeny tiny posts, because they can write way more—it’s been done. ;]

The appearance doesn't matter much to me as long as I'm not blinded and the loading time isn't too horrible. If the loading time is iffy, I'll give the site a go as long as it looks presentable. Other than that, I like being able to fit in well and make sure that people post at my level or higher, but usually I'm uncomfortable with less because I will not be able to strengthen myself as an rper with people at a lower level than I. I like active sites, and am honestly iffy about joining sites that are just starting out. Developed, well-established sites are more my thing because I don't want to join something that has a higher probability of dying on me.

To even get me to look past your advertisement, I have to be interested in the plot. If I'm not, I probably won't go further. If I am, then I'll open the site. After that, if the skin blinds me, then I'll close it quickly. I suffer from seizures, and I need to protect myself against things that would cause me to have one. If your skin doesn't do that, and your boards don't make me feel closed in, then I'll look around more. After that, I need to be able to find somewhere that I'd fit in. If I can't, then I'll leave. Simple as that.

First the skin. What really gets my attention is a well organized forum with a nice skin and coding. Then, I check if half of the members aren't admins (sorry if this happens with you, but that kind of annoys me). If they are like ten or more, I leave, if they are less, I move to activity. I usually like sites with 20 to 40 members, more I'll feel scared (lool, I know, I know), less I feel like it's almost dying.
Then, canons (if they have a list), rules, face claims and application (since I utterly hate long apps). If I agree with the rules, can have one of my favorite face claims and the application isn't too long, I'll join. I usually like sites that have their minimum to 400/500 words and that are rated R, it gives me that feeling that you can write about everything. (just the feeling, not that I will actually do it, =P)

Since generally I look a site over first, I'd say the skin/layout/colors are the most important thing to me. Because if I can't look at a site long enough to read the rules, there's no way I'm posting there. It's just not gonna happen.
Then I'd have to say member count/activity... I don't care if there's only 5 members, as long as those five are active. Quality over quantity for me as far as members go. And of course if there hasn't been a post since last September, I ain't joining.
I look at the rules next. If there's a billion rules, I leave. I'm sorry but my creativity can't be stopped so frequently that I want to stab something =/ And of course if the application is six pages long and coded to high hell, I won't even bother to fill it out. I don't care how good the site is, a long application is always a turn off for me because it's just too frustrating.
Then I guess I register and test it out for a week or so. If I don't like it, I delete my stuff and move on =/

I'll look at the skin first (because that show up first!). I won't join a site if its fonts are illegible, too bright or too dark isn't good for me. Then I would look at the rules and see the post minimum they ask for, and then see if there's a canon list. If the canon list is too clique then I wouldn't join too. I'll read the plot and other important informations again. Before I really join, I would see if their application requests ridiculous things and see if I could give what they want to get.
