The Story
In a flooded world called Catori, parallel to our own, animals that talk, walk on two legs, and wear clothing replace humans as the dominant species. In this world humans have never and will never exist, but similar conquests...and conflicts appear with each rising of the sun.
In a futuristic civilization St. Lucent towers over the freezing Teagan Sea, the only settlement for miles around that dares to confront the brutal cold and raging winds that kill nearly everything in their path. Only rare hot blooded fish and a small number of well adapted plants and animals dwell here in silence, feeding and being fed on by the dominant species that peoples the city--the Furres.
The island is not very big, so out of hard learned respect for the endurance of nature, the citizens have taken to the sky, changed their way of life, and built up instead of out.
The ancestors of the Furres that crossed these treacherous seas and sought to live here inhabit the scales and scales of apartments and mixed development lofts hanging all over the city like a silver jungle canopy and young furres spiral back and forth between piloting, ice sailing and the relentless search for knowledge that seems to infect the population.
In St. Lucent furres have adapted their lifestyle, including their wardrobe, to suit the harsh conditions of the island.
An invaluable port of trade, the city is diverse and futuristic, a melting pot of new schemes and ideals the world has never seen before such as hover technology, mechanical and chemical body enhancement, freedom of speech and equality towards those who choose to mate outside their own species.

A hundred years ago the dragon, St. Dwight Lucent, along with his partners worked to found the island and to make this city the most progressive existence for it's people since Atlantis was lost. They saw something in this place, despite the unlikely surroundings, they were determined to make it a paradise.
The dragon was a genius and a true idealist, The Gates, especially were his greatest invention, they are living things in the skins of stone and metal protecting the city from the worst of the elements, the terrible monsoon seasons and all outward forces that it considered a threat to their well being, thus St. Lucent has never once been sieged.
The citizens, despite having lived in their freezing wonderland for a full seven years were still ignorant to all the secrets the island possessed, as well as it's true name. Dwight Lucent himself was set to reveal all of these to the public until one day he vanished without a trace.
Names, in this world are of great importance and with it's name lost to wherever Dwight had been spirited, the island, or more specifically, The towering Gates, seemed to lash out at the people that it had once sheltered.
Lost without the "keys to the city", it fell to pandemonium, a complete loss of food, power and control.
It has suffered scars it still bares traces of today. As money was lost, between families, hatred was born, out of desperation and a topple of balance advanced organized crime rose up from the crevices and the Gates which had been built to serve the city closed completely on their own accord to all outside sources, leaving Trade ruined and evacuation nearly impossible.

From St. Lucent's old partners, there formed a Guild to replace the law that had been so easily shaken out of balance, The Guild alone had access to Lucent's notes and taught themselves the secrets of the Gates.
They forced the Gates to open and welcome in resources, they gathered and trained followers striking out into the city and protecting those who needed protecting, crushing rebellions, putting out fires and restoring order to a city that had all but fallen to chaos.
The public recognized the Hour Glass Guild as their protectors and leaders and as the vestiges of panic faded they began to call them their Angels, the Guardian Angels of St. Lucent.
Despite recovering the notes, the Hour Glass Guild could not find the island's true name and elected to create an appropriate stand in to appease the Gates until they could find it. Christening the city St. Lucent after their lost martyr the Hour Glass Guild ruled forcefully but fairly for twenty years.
But this did not last.
People began to protest that the ideals of freedom and peace Lucent himself had advocated for were being crushed by the public's slowly increasing dependency on the violent Angels.
Recognizing that Lucent had always meant his city to be a democracy the Elder Angels appointed a council of peers to rule the judicial branch, and took it upon themselves to control the executive branch, becoming the one lawful, military force of St. Lucent as the Council became the one democratic force.
The Angels disappeared into their secrecy, deciding to close their doors and only welcome in a select few to the Gates's secrets.
They still run rampant, wiping away their trail as they come and go. They are now an elite job class only the most skilled and intelligent furres could hope to join.
---
The Angels have dwindled, but their standards remain the same, rigorous training, complete dedication, a ritual of sacrifice, and a withdrawal from the outside world are among these. Angels must take apprentices, and as the older Angels die away new Fledglings must be instated before the threat that the Gates have divined bears down on their city.
Though things have settled uneasily in St. Lucent over the last fifty years, a disquiet still lingers, racism for half breeds and pure breed furres abounds. Fights between old clans and families, jaded by un answered deals, rage, denied rights by the Council's hypocrisy Rebels pack together and whisper of anarchy in low voices, in the Eastern alleys.
And the Council, as a response to the outcries have grown increasingly fierce, their force and infamy beginning to rival the Angels themselves, unlike them however, they have become corrupt and power hungry. The Gates, bitter, have been the cause of more and more accidents over the past three years, and people are beginning to talk.
With ridiculous laws being instated on a daily basis and the Council shifting the public's' faith in the Gate's themselves, the coldest winter that they have yet to know descends on them and the search for the island's true name becomes not only a quest for the right to live here, but for their very survival.
