I've noticed celebrity roleplays becoming a trend lately. These are roleplays which revolve around the lives of celebrities and such.
What do you think about them? Personally, I don't like them; I think they are very overrated and quite boring. I'm just curious as to what the opinions of others are.
Would you ever join one? Why or why not.

I personally don't like them all too much either, but I have joined a few... why? I don't even know, probably because I just really like playing other characters as well as making applications.
But for the most part I find that they're all the same, same plots, same people... it all gets kind of boring since if you joined one you've pretty much joined them all.

I don't favor them, using them as real life character seems a little strange for me in general. Something about using celebrities as themselves makes role-playing a little weird. I'm not saying they are bad, however they do usually die out fast that I have seen. =/
I don't tend to join them, but look at there site only nowadays. Join them at all? I joined at least two before I was acutally getting used to role-playing. When I joined them I thought it would interesting, so I did. It was fun for me while it lasted after I knew the different types of role-plays that Proboards and InvisionFree had.

i've never joined one, and i don't really think i ever will. i've seen quite a few of them and the plots have never interested me. besides, when you use a celebrity and have them as your actual character, there's no creativity in the making. you can't really create a character of your own because they already exsist. the whole point of rping, really, is to have your character develop on it's own. you know what i'm saying? (:

i've never joined one before but i have seen a lot of them. the posts seem shorter than other rp'ing sites and they're repetitive at times, very boring it seems to me. i think using them as a face is fine but actually basing the character around them, not so much.

i agree with most of what's being said. i prefer using their faces to actually basing the characters around them. it does seem boring to me.
i would prefer hollywood-based (with your own characters) overall, although i don't think i've seen a hollywood roleplay stay active and alive for a long time. they usually go dead. shame cause they could be interesting to roleplay.

I agree with all of you as well. Celebrity roleplays just seem extremely boring for there isn't really much one can do. It's Hollywood yes, but let's all admit that the life of the normal is way more fun as well as dramatic in many ways. Also, I wouldn't join because like jeezjacketz said, you cannot really create your own character. I tend to not like taking canons due to that fact, but with celebrities everything is mapped out pretty well and you're left without any creative sparks.

I had joined one before and I think I wouldn't join celeb rpg again. it's unrealistic especially 'hollywood' rp. many celebrities didn't live in hollywood.
